Dental crowns (or caps) fit over the top of your existing teeth or dental implants. A long-term solution, crowns and bridges help prevent dental issues that occur when just one tooth is missing. When one tooth is missing, your teeth can shift and eventually decay. Other problems with missing teeth include periodontal disease and bone loss.

A dental bridge is a series of crowns that are anchored to your neighboring teeth. When a missing tooth is replaced with bridge work, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth must be prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic (replacement teeth) in place.
